The Chicago Bears, in case you haven’t heard, have a kicking problem. And it just took another wild turn during their final preseason game of the year.
These kicking woes started last season when the team’s former FG kicker, Cody Parkey, struggled a bit during the regular season, then struggled a lot in their playoff loss to the Eagles.
The team has been focused way too much on Parkey’s 43-yard FG that was blocked at the end of that loss to the Eagles. They had brought in a ton of kickers during the offseason and often made them attempt a 43-yard FG at random times to see if they could make it. Totally normal, right?
Just the other day they cut another kicker, making Eddy Pineiro the only kicker left on the roster.
So how’s Eddy doing? Well, he did this on an extra point Thursday night:
That didn’t get tipped. That was a flat-out shank and his second miss at home this preseason.
Look, kickers are going to miss kicks. But because the Bears have made such a big deal out of that one from the playoffs, their kicking game this year is going to be viewed under a microscope.
And that’s because of how the Bears have acted since last January.
This should all go well for them.
